I’m too slow

Mizzou News Reporting (J7450), Reflections

When it comes to reporting out a story, I am slow. Partially, it’s because of my procrastination habit, but I think it’s because of more than just that. Claire Mitzel pointed out that I have a perfectionist streak, much like her, that I sometimes need to just let go.

But I think that speed also has to do with establishing regular routines that I can fall back on, and getting the info I need the first time around. These sorts of changes to my reporting practices will only come from experience.

It’s weird that I’ve been reporting for so long but have been unable to crack these issues before. I think it has a lot to do with how sparsely I was reporting before. Now that I’m cranking out at least a piece a week, I’m internalizing lessons more quickly and thinking more actively as I work.
